The Story Behind Our Adventures in Life

Our family
Mr. Bode the adventure dog

Some of the best stories start as family jokes.

In our house, the phrase "It'll be fun!" became a running theme for just about every adventure I tried to convince our kids to go on. Road trips, hikes, random detours, spontaneous outings—if I was pitching the idea, I'd always say the same thing: "Come on… it'll be fun!"

And usually, they weren't convinced.

But they'd go anyway.

And somehow, every single time, we'd come home with great memories. The kind that become family legends—stories that get retold at holidays, around campfires, and during long car rides.

But our kids had their own way of remembering those adventures. After we'd get back from something especially chaotic, unexpected, or exhausting, they'd grin and say sarcastically:

"Yeah… it'll be fun, she said."

Of course, they always had a blast. But giving Mom a hard time was part of the fun too.

And just like that, "It'll Be Fun, She Said" became part of our family vocabulary.

Now the Kids Are Grown

Fast forward a few years.

Our kids are grown and living their own adventures now. The house is quieter, the schedules are lighter, and the possibilities feel a little bigger.

But there's still one very important member of our crew.

Mr. Bode.

Our four-legged adventure buddy who is always ready to go wherever the road leads.

For years—actually since our early 30s—we've talked about the idea of RV life. The freedom of the open road. Waking up somewhere new. Watching sunsets in places most people only see in pictures.

But like a lot of dreams, life had its own timeline.

Jobs. Kids. Responsibilities.

The RV dream always stayed in the "someday" category.

That "Someday" Might Be Now

Now we finally have the opportunity to try it.

And if we're being honest… it's equal parts exciting and nerve-wracking.

Selling everything and committing fully to life on the road is a big leap. The kind of leap you don't take lightly.

So instead of jumping in headfirst, we decided to try something a little different.

We're running an experiment.

This summer, we're renting an RV and hitting the road for a few weeks to see if we can really do this.

  • A few weeks of living small
  • A few weeks of figuring out how to travel together again
  • A few weeks of learning whether RV life is truly the life we've been imagining

Will we love it? Will we drive each other crazy? Will we discover we forgot something incredibly important?
Probably. But that's part of the adventure.

Colorado Is Our Launch Pad

We live in Colorado, which means some of the most incredible landscapes in the country are practically in our backyard.

Mountains

Deserts

National Parks

Hidden Towns

This summer, we're pointing the RV toward the open road and seeing where it takes us.

Some of the stops are planned.

Some of them will probably happen because we saw a cool sign on the side of the highway.

And some will happen because Mr. Bode decided that particular trail looked interesting.

Are We Prepared?

Honestly? We're not entirely sure.

We're figuring out the packing lists. Learning how RV systems work. Trying to predict what life on the road will really feel like.

But part of the fun of any adventure is not knowing exactly how it will unfold.

After all, the best stories rarely go according to plan.

One Thing We Do Know

The name for this adventure was already decided. Because if history has taught our family anything, it's this:

The adventures that start with
"It'll be fun!"
usually turn into the stories we remember the most.

So here we go.

A few weeks One RV Two slightly nervous humans One very excited dog

And who knows… Maybe our kids will be watching from home, shaking their heads and laughing.

"It'll be fun… she said."
